PAINTED WOLVES OF BOTSWANA?
The eye never forgets what the heart has seen.
Botswana has long been established as one of the premiere countries for safari. It’s on everyone’s list of destinations to witness one of natures last Gardens of Eden.
This luxury mobile tented safari takes you to two of Botswana’s prime wildlife locations. The beautiful Khwai Concession and the unmistakable Moremi Game Reserve. You focus on the regions endangered wild dogs or painted wolf if you prefer. They are one of our favourite animals to see on safari with their unique and beautiful coats of brown, black, yellow and white. Their long legs perfect for running long distances in the bush and big ears to listen out for prey, mother nature endowed them with the finest of canine technology. There’s nothing quite like seeing a large pack, of these wonderful creatures, on the move and running through your camp or chasing prey. They aren’t alone in the game of wildlife top trumps in Botswana, you’ll hopefully get the chance to see the apex predators plus an abundance of plains game and birdlife.
This safari builds from Maun in 4×4 vehicles and with expert guides and crew throughout the week you will have a fantastic week in the bush in search of ‘painted wolves’. The mobile camps enable you to be in the perfect location to witness all the wildlife action in both locations.
This particular safari is the perfect 5* experience with typical Botswana hospitality. The tented camps are clean and comfortable provide the perfect base for exploration and adventure.

WHY GO ON THIS TRIP?
DAYS 1,2,3,4 CAPTIVATING KHWAI
On arrival at Maun you meet your safari guide and set off for the first part of this wonderful itinerary. Nestled nicely between Chobe National Park to the East and Moremi Game Reserve to the South west, Khwai Community Concession has developed a fantastic reputation for high quality game viewing.
You’ll spend 4 nights at our exclusive campsite in the concession. Your accommodation every night is spacious sahara style tents with comfy beds and soft bedding and pillows. You have an outdoor bathroom with safari style shower, your water can be ordered hot, warm or cold as it’s heated on the fire and brought to the tent in a bucket! Every morning there will be a hearty breakfast on offer with a nice pot of tea or coffee. Lunches can be packed in to the vehicle for during the day or we’ll come back to camp. After supper your evenings in Khwai will be spend by the fire listening to the lions calling out to their young.
Your days in Khwai are spent on game drives in the woodland areas but it’s around the Khwai River where a lot of the wildlife action occurs. Acting as a natural border with Moremi Game Reserve, the river acts as a magnet for wildlife, perfect for game viewing, including elephants wanting to quench their thirst and leopard stalking impala in the long grass. Our main focus though is to find the wild dog packs, there are several dens in the concession. The search for them is exhilarating and with the abundance of wildlife in the area it really will leave you not knowing where to look next!
Khwai is managed by the local community and lies outside the main parks, it gives you a number of advantages that you would only associate with more expensive private concessions. We take you off-road for closer sightings, take a night drive in search of nocturnal species like the African civet, Serval and the elusive Genet.
DAYS 5,6,7,8 MOVE ON TO MOREMI
After breakfast you will take a full day game drive to from the Khwai Concession and head south in to the Moremi Game Reserve for 3 nights. You pass through one of the most beautiful areas of the Okavango enroute to the Xakanaxa region of the park. Moremi is very much the beating heart of the Okavango. Activities in Moremi are mainly land based and your game drives, in the morning and the afternoon, will give you ample opportunity to see the huge variety of wildlife in this most special of African parks.
Accommodation is the same tents you stayed in whilst in Khwai, clean, comfortable, hot water and hearty meals. What more could you want.
Moremi is one of the best places to see the species you have come all this way to see – the endangered African Wild Dog. Xakanaxa also is home to prides of lion that love this area due to the abundance of antelope including the Red Lechwe. There is a rich variety of birdlife in the region with swamps and open areas of water attracting many species.
The beauty of Moremi is the different areas attract different wildlife. So you could be looking out for Wild Dog and then almost stumble upon a leopard, resting in the shade, after a hard night trying to secure a meal. It is a special place and a fitting last three nights to a captivating Botswana safari.
On the last day you are driven back to Maun for your onward flight back to Johannesburg.
